Smart scales are sensitive instruments, and body composition estimates respond to your hydration, meals and even the floor under the scale. The good news: a few simple habits make your readings far more consistent.
1. Same time, every time
Morning, after using the bathroom and before breakfast, is the most repeatable moment of the day.
2. Hard, flat floor
Carpet and uneven tiles can affect weight readings. Keep the scale in one spot on a hard floor.
3. Bare, dry feet
Electrodes need direct skin contact. Very dry skin can raise impedance slightly — if readings look odd, lightly dampen your feet with a cloth.
4. Hold the handle properly
On 8-electrode analyzers, wrap your hands fully around the electrodes and hold your arms straight out, away from your body.
5. Avoid measuring right after exercise
Training shifts fluids and body temperature. Wait a few hours, or measure the next morning.
6. Watch hydration and salt
A salty dinner or a night without much water can move body-water readings, which moves body fat estimates too.
7. Judge the trend, not the day
Use weekly averages. The ADAK app’s trend charts are designed for exactly this.
